Lithium Battery & Power Bank Rules

Spare (uninstalled) lithium batteries and power banks must travel in carry-on baggage only — they are prohibited in checked bags because of fire risk; the cabin allows a crew member to respond if one overheats.

Watt-hour (Wh) thresholds for passenger aircraft:

• Up to 100 Wh: allowed without airline approval — this covers the large majority of phone and laptop power banks.
• 100–160 Wh: allowed only with airline approval, typically limited to two spares per passenger.
• Over 160 Wh: not allowed on passenger aircraft.

Devices with batteries installed (laptops, phones, cameras) may go in checked bags, but carrying them in the cabin is strongly recommended.

Protect spare battery terminals from short-circuiting (tape over contacts, or keep in original retail packaging / a dedicated pouch).
