Our methodology

Every verdict on this site is sourced from official authorities — primarily the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) — and confirmed by a human before it's published.

How an item gets published

  1. We identify an item travelers are searching for or asking about.
  2. We pull the relevant guidance from the appropriate official source.
  3. A person confirms the carry-on and checked-bag verdict against that source directly — nothing is published on an AI-generated guess alone.
  4. We record the source, the verification date, and review it again on a regular schedule or whenever a rule changes.

"Last verified" dates

Every item shows the date it was last checked against its official source. Rules do change, so if it's been a while, or if you're about to travel with something unusual, it's always worth a quick check with your airline or the TSA directly.

Found something wrong?

Rules change, and mistakes happen. If you spot an item that looks outdated or incorrect, let us know — ideally with a link to the official source you're seeing. We re-check the item against that source and correct it, updating its "last verified" date once we do.
