Carry-on details
Allowed. Standard corded hair straighteners (flat irons) are allowed in carry-on without restriction. Cordless straighteners powered by a lithium battery or a butane/gas cartridge are also allowed in carry-on, as long as the heating plates have a securely fitted safety cover.
Checked-bag details
Allowed with conditions. Corded (plug-in) hair straighteners can go in checked baggage without restriction. Cordless straighteners with a lithium battery or gas/butane cartridge are carry-on only — they're not allowed in checked bags because of fire risk.
Special instructions
Gas refill cartridges for butane-powered straighteners aren't allowed in carry-on or checked baggage at all.

FAQ
- Can I bring a cordless hair straightener in checked luggage?
- No. Cordless straighteners powered by a lithium battery or butane cartridge must travel in carry-on only. Standard corded straighteners are fine in either bag.
- Does my flat iron need a safety cover?
- Cordless, battery- or gas-powered straighteners need a securely fitted cover over the heating plates. Corded electric models don't have this requirement.
