Which Foods Count as Liquids?

Applies to: Carry-on baggage

Solid food (sandwiches, fruit, baked goods, most snacks) has no liquid restriction and can be packed freely in carry-on or checked bags.

However, TSA treats spreadable, pourable, or gel-like foods as liquids under the 3-1-1 rule in carry-on — including peanut butter, jam, honey, syrup, sauces, dips, and soft spreadable cheeses. Each container must be 3.4 oz (100 mL) or less and fit in your quart bag, or the item should go in checked baggage instead, where there is no size restriction for food.
